Experience the Art of John Wilson McCracken at Middleton Grange
Middleton Grange Shopping Centre is delighted to welcome a special art exhibition, bringing the iconic work of John Wilson McCracken into the heart of Hartlepool.
From Monday 3rd November, visitors can enjoy high-quality reproductions of McCracken’s artwork displayed in a vacant unit in South Mall, located between Thirteen Group and Christmas World.
In collaboration with Hartlepool Art Gallery and supported by the Art Fund Reimagine grant, this exhibition offers a unique opportunity to explore McCracken’s legacy up close.
While the unit is for viewing only, it allows everyone to appreciate the vibrancy, texture and emotion of McCracken’s work without leaving the shopping centre.
Born in Belfast and trained at the Slade School of Art, McCracken settled in Hartlepool in 1959, shaping the town’s creative scene through teaching, curating and community engagement. His bold use of colour and dynamic compositions captured the spirit and humanity of the North East, leaving a lasting imprint on local cultural life.
This exhibition not only celebrates McCracken’s artistic achievements but also highlights the power of creativity in supporting mental health and community wellbeing, curated by participants from Andy’s Man Club.
At Middleton Grange, we’re proud to support initiatives that connect art with the community, making culture accessible to everyone.
Be sure to visit and experience the colourful world of John Wilson McCracken from 3rd November onwards.
